No. 0     Original Topic: Changing user names
By:  Administrator   Gender: M   Age: 51   on  Mar 7, 2007 at 7:36 AM   Viewed 192978 times
MeetChristians.com will be closing down the ability to change usernames every 30 days. In the future, members will be offered an opportunity to make a change once a year.

The purpose is to eliminate the confusion often resulting from the frequent changes, along with making various administrative functions easier.

This policy will go into effect on April 15th, 2007. The delay in implementation allows all of those who have changed usernames in the last couple days a chance to do so one more time before getting locked out for a year.

Anyone falling into the latter category should probably mark the calendar. April 15 is the day when taxes are due in America, therefore quite easy to remember for many.

Hi Dev

I think it's a great change!

Will definitely stop a lot of confusion of who's who.

I have a question...what if a person needs to change their username before their year is up? Will you allow them to do so with your permission, considering certain circumstances? Just curious, as always,

I think that it's a good move to do this. constant changing of usernames is at times very uncalled for and is done only because it can be by many that do it.

I'm okay with it. I've had this name since I started. I believe others use this as a means to start trouble and then avoid detection through disappearing and reappearing.

Probably, depending of course on the merit and urgency behind the request. Mostly, that would mean for a matter of safety.

Well, good, I guess. But I've never been one to change names all the time, either.

But I wonder if it will curb those most rampant name-changers, who I am sure will simply delete their old profile and make another one. One comes to mind that does this fairly regularly anyway in all his many leavings. I doubt the new policy will change too much of anything for those intent on many name changes.

I think its a great Idea...Sometimes I think a new person just joined...To find out weeks later its someone who just changed there user name....and do they want to be called by thier new name? Kinda confusing.
This would make things easier...
Just my thoughts,

I guess this means I shall have to decide whether or not I really like the name Tavita enough to keep it for another whole year!

I think this change will be for the benefit of most of us as we struggle to keep track of who is who.

As Boxie has pointed out those capricious shapeshifters who feel the impelling urge to change can still delete and create a new profile with a new name. If it costs them a new donation that is the cost of their addiction.

awwwww, not sure about this one, Never having seen this feature anywhere else I think it's a pretty unique. Part of the fun when someone changes the name is figuring out who the person is. It would mean to change names one would have to delete their profile and build a new one under a new name, a whole lot more work. Still, you're the owner, I'll go with the flow whatever happens.

Taxes are actually due on April 17th this year I think.

Anyway, generally speaking I don't see a problem with this. I don't understand why people change their names constantly anyway. Once in awhile is understandable, but every 30 days is a bit extreme. No biggie.

Now... do I want to keep my name or switch it? :P

Not sure what administrative functions it may make more difficult but that could be a good enough reason alone. I personally have only changed my user name maybe twice. But I feel the option should be there to change it as often as one pleases. At least for those that donate. I do not understand any confusion changing a user name causes. I could care less who the user was yesterday.

I wanted to change my name after my subscription was received and posted since I didn't do so before. I mailed it on Feb. 24th. Just wondering how long that takes? I do realize no one is just sitting around on the internet all day handling Meet Christians, so I'm fine. I was just a little surprised because the first time it went through right away. I would also be in favor of being able to pay for a year at a time.

Did you send the letter to the old address in Michigan, or the new one in California? If the latter, then it is way late, as I checked the mail last weekend. If you will, send me an email with details, whereupon I can update your status in lieu of the arrival.

In either case, there is no reason (that I can see) to wait before changing your name.

When I first joined MC I loved changing my name. I love being able to have an alter ego. Its just good old fun. But when I changed alot people couldn't keep up with who they are talking to. So I've been OOPS a long time. But I might be ready for a change. How about clint eestwood? or Jon Wayne? Whatever!

To change user names frequently is in reality a confusing not to mention a heavier administrative load.We here in the body of CHRIST aren't to be into role playing which is a attribute of the world for what is seen here within the BODY should exhibit the best attributes that are GOD oriented and not a thing from our past worldly ways.

How does not being able to change your user name verify someone's identity on a site such as this?

Some choose to eat meat, some choose to veg. It does not matter to most of us which they do. Why care if someone enjoys the liberty to change their user name?

No it's other people who continually change their own user name and confuse many people, Admin is trying to stop confusion in Member's forums.

Thank you for your message. Actually I would have no reason to change my usser name, I find that if I keep it as simple as possible it is so much better for me.

Hi.
You wrote to me: MeetChristians.com will be closing down the ability to change usernames every 30 days. In the future, members will be offered an opportunity to make a change once a year. Why I really don't understand. Is it because you want to lock out people who does it too often? I don't need to change my username. Am I about to be deleted? Should I change my username before April 15th, 2007? Can you tell me because I really don't understand.

Maybe they are being plagued, messaged, or harrassed by too many members of the opposite sex, or one in particular, lol.

No, you will not be deleted.

You do not have to change your user name.

The way the system is currently setup you have the ability to change your current user name every 30 days to a "different user name" if you choose to or desire to.

But for some people who see your profile with a new user name it may cause confusion to them.

So the Admin is changing the capability of people to change their user name from every 30 days to once per year.

For those who never change their user name it will not have any affect.

Sorry to hear you are now inviting 'marrieds' to join. I thought this was a dating site for singles ONLY. Are you encouraging married people to break their vows?? This invitation is a good way to entice them.

Concerned.

I agree, User Names should be locked at least for a year, it's easier to find a person. The only thig I don't like, when the system gives you your chosen nick name together with it's own numbers.. I think everybody should create a desired Username and you guys can lock it, maybe even permanently.

I have been a member off and on here for about 3 or 4 years.

I believe "Married" poeople have always been invited to participate in this site.

I thought this was a dating site for singles ONLY.

I don't ever recall seeing any such claim by MC Administrators or Webmasters here.

This site is more of a place where Christians can get in touch with each other and fellowship gatherings. If you ever visit the "forums" here you will see what I am talking about.

"Dating" is only ONE aspect that this site has to offer, but it is by no means the "only" thing it offers.

Are you encouraging married people to break their vows?? This invitation is a good way to entice them.

Concerned.

There are quite a few Married couples who post on the forums who have no problems and are not here for any other reason but to have social interactions with other Christians, help those who are seeking answers, meet some new Friends, etc.

I encourage you to perhaps spend some time there in the forums and get to know some of the people who post there.

Dear Sir,

Greetings in the name of Christ Jesus, Yeshua. Thank you for your efforts. Thank you for making this site possible.

I want to thank the founder and creator of this web site. Though it may not be highly effective finding true lovers of Christ Jesus, Yeshua the Messiah, it allows the profiler to discribe oneself in a way that he or she can fine tune. By communicating with others, we get a better perspective of how we might communicate with God.

God bless you and your families.

Your brother in Christ,
Bob Erb @ www.DisciplesOfYeshua.org or www.boberb.org

No Problem, especially if it makes running the site a little easier.

Only time my user name was changed was when I re-registered after leaving (or that might have been when site closed down)

God bless you and all the work you put into the this great site!

I would agree that every 30 days may be too much, but once a year seems to be too long. Perhaps evry 60-90 days would be better...

I think one should have the ability to remove the randomly selected numbers, and, if duplicated names, add something of your own choosing to distinguish. Check out the Help forum for a case where I think this need is illustrated.

Maybe give a one month grace period for such adjustments when one joins??

Can user names be changed to remove numbers at the end? I'm pretty sure I tried to get just ImChristi2 which is my email address. If that's not available I'll go with anything just a few less numbers if possible.

Thanks,

Christi

Hi ImChristi729, welcome to MC

if you have not changed your name here before click on the "user tools" button up top of the screen then on "change my profile" on the next screen, which should have on the screen several more buttons, one of which says "change my user name" just follow through that.

There you have it, easy, cheers

I am getting tired of my name and was going to call myself
Wee D'Arcy's Mum but we are not allowed to use ' or spaces and her name is just not going to look the same as DArcy versus D'Arcy. so I guess there is no way unless I go D_Arcy but that does not look as good either. WeeDArcysMum no that still does not look the way I would like it to.

Is there a reason we can not have spaces? or ' ?
