Hi All

I received several requests to re-post the Success Story and Poem I placed here in February 2001, including the footnote added on March 20, 2001.

Within two years of our marriage, Debi and I relocated to her home town, Knoxville, Tennessee.
Unchanged is the fact, we both hold a deep love for each other, and it shows to everyone around us.

Here is the re-post!

The Success Story of Debi481 & Gary601

I was asked on numerous occasions, to share our unusual success story, in this new forum. I often shared privately with fellow MC members, little glimpses of how the Lord miraculously worked in our lives. However, I feel sharing the success of others, in public, may be detrimental to our own faith in Him; especially when things do not seem to go the way we would like them to for us. Therefore, I have shied away from sharing our happiness, except with a select few.

Each time I started to compile our story for this forum, I found the space too short to contain all which should be said. In reviewing previous responses shared with other members; I find even a small part consumes several pages. We encountered many diverse situations, which need lengthy explanations to do them justice. Too long for the space allotted here.

The events which brought us together, and the conversations we shared, would fill an entire book. These chats led to an informal proposal of marriage, within our first seventy-two hours of meeting each other. Our story sounds crazy, ludicrous, and downright impossible. Unless the whole story is unfolded, bringing everything into sharp focus, and in tune with following the Lord. It becomes almost unbelievable to those who do not know us.

Although I am a regular on MC, the fact Debi and I even met when we did, was pre-arranged and directed by the Lord. After our arranged introduction, the Lord gave us foreknowledge of what was to take place. He expounded on this knowledge, requiring both of us to step forward, in faith in Him, and do the things He asked of us. He also gave us a promise that would be completely unbelievable, to both of us, if from anyone other than the Lord Himself.

Almost one month after we met on-line, I finally had the opportunity to visit Debi in person. After I arrived home from meeting her for the first time; I compiled a small poem I titled "Love Before First Sight," and posted it on the general forum. Edited to be a little more vague than the original poem I penned to her; because I did not want to disclose too much of what I understood coming, to the membership.
Here is a copy of the poem, including the notes from a subsequent posting, made before we were married.

Dedicated to Debi481 my fiancée,
and to sysop Tom, our webmaster.
*please see footnote

The hour was late and I thought my day was quite through,
but the Holy Spirit's wee little voice said, no not for you.
I pray what could be so urgent that requires such haste,
that there wasn't a moment to lose not a second to waste.

Away to my computer the chat room I flew,
only to find each member that was logged on I already knew.
I wrapped a warm fuzzy big hug around all who were present,
and as they appeared greeted each guest warmly and pleasant.

The chat room was busy many friendly new users did appear,
and then it happened the heart on my sleeve began to tear.
As I saw the next log-in Cupids arrow my heart did pierce,
it was both painful and sweet but not considered fierce.

I cried out dear Lord is this why you brought me in here,
this person I know not yet she is already drawing near.
Her replies came streaming back to the comments I wrote,
then just as instantly my heart became lodged in my throat.

I knew in that very moment it was love before first sight,
but how could I tell from a name if she was just right.
We talked the rest of the night and into the wee morning,
chat whispering quite often and found our bonds forming.

I had not seen her profile she just joined on that night,
though we soon discovered our hearts were blessed aright.
In the days that then followed we shared all our plights,
running up the phone bills and checking all the flights.

We knew that to be sure we just had to get together,
and up until now the telephone line was our only tether.
To gaze into each others eyes would be our only assurance,
the Lord Our God was truly the cause of this occurrence.

A long distance relationship could not be found complete,
without the blessings of Our Father kneeling at his feet.
Though we both were quite busy with no extra time to spare,
the Lord saw fit that needed time together we could share.

He carefully provided the funding the time and the way,
so that we could be together to enjoy each and every day.
That first meeting brought a special bonding for us to live,
to unite us together in a way that only the Lord could give.

Through Him we have the fire and all of the love to maintain,
the commitment of our hearts so our desires we can sustain.
The time is soon coming when we will have yet another way,
to be together surely in preparation of our wedding day.

Much flak from our kinfolk and friends were sure to obtain,
because a relationship from the internet is surely to blame.
But we of this group know of the source,
and the love of the One who leads us on this glorious course.

A warm heartfelt thank you to Tom our webmaster and friend,
who has brought many a member a relationship without end.
He is a caring and loving sysop who toils daily for free,
serving our Lord so that a you and a me can soon become a we.

I say these things in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Respectfully Submitted

Debi481 met Gary601 on the evening of January 4, 2001 in the chat-room of on her first visit to this website. Although he did not receive a picture from her until January 11, 2001, talk of marriage was already well underway. They met face to face for the first time on January 26, 2001 when Gary drove from St. Louis, MO to Knoxville, TN to meet her. This poem was originally written on February 4, 2001 to Debi then edited for publication on the Post-It forum. Their second date did not occur until February 16, 2001, again in Knoxville. On their third date, when Debi visited St. Louis; Gary proposed to her atop the Gateway Arch on March 14, 2001 at 4:00p.m.; where he presented her with a full carat diamond engagement ring. The wedding reception will be held on June 1, 2001 in the main ballroom at The Orangery in Knoxville. Debi will reside with Gary at his home in St. Louis County, MO.

On Sunday, March 4th, ten days before I physically proposed to Debi, I bore my testimony before our congregation at my Church. I informed the membership of all that the Lord had done for us, and about our upcoming marriage. This raised an eyebrow or two, because I lost my wife of many years only a few months prior. A previously offered position in the clergy of the Church, was sustained a couple of weeks later. So much happened so quickly, it still boggles the mind just looking back on it today.

I made the following statement many times on the forums, only the monthly notation keeps incrementing. Debi and I, married now for one year and four months; to date, we have not exchanged one cross word or possessed an ill feeling between us. Neither of us have been happier in our whole lives. The Lord truly blessed us in our union with each other and with Him. We always place the Lord Jesus Christ first in our lives.

There are a few interesting and fun details of our long distant relationship. However, rather than make a long dissertation to join them all together; when I find time, I will post unique events in smaller more manageable articles to the General Forum.

I can never close an article of this type without including Tom, our webmaster, in our prayers of thanksgiving; and for maintaining this website. For many of us, MC represents the heart carved in the old oak tree; the old covered bridge where we stole our first kiss. is the landmark that marks where many of us first met, and will forever hold a place, near and dear in our hearts.

Oh, Gary!

This is awesome, funny, sweet, precious proof as to how God loves us enough to bring nothing but *His* best (what or whomever that may be) in our lives, if only we put Him first, and submit to His will and timing.

I loved it, and thanks for sharing!

Your wife is one blessed lady!

The Lord has truly blessed both of us exceedingly!

Our third anniversary is coming up in only 60 days.

It's hard to believe that three whole years have passed already and so quickly, as it seems to us that we only met yesterday.
But on the other hand, we are so close and can almost answer responses for each other like we have been together for 30 years.

We place the Lord first in our lives and do whatever he bids us to do, regardless of material consequences, because he graciously gives us what we need.

The Lord is good to us and our days are continually filled with joy in Him. We love being together and the smiles have never left our faces!

Although we have litrally nothing in common (except or love for the Lord), we enjoy doing everything we do, together!

We include all of the MC family in our daily prayers, that they too may find the same happiness we enjoy, and we never forget to mention Tom (our webmaster) in our prayers, that he receive the strength and means necessary to bring MC to historical landmark status.

May God Bless!

Hard to believe almost 3-1/2 years have gone by already!

So much has happened in such a short span of time that it almost boggles the mind.

The Lord has been so wonderful and has blessed both of us with unparalleled happiness that is unceasing.

He truly takes care of all of our needs! Even brings some of the things on our want list to fruition.

Our daily prayers always include the members of our extended MC Family, that the Lord may bless each and every one abundantly.

He carefully provided the funding the time and the way,

Will... Some Body Please.... pass me a box of Kleenexes?
I'm just too over whelmed.... knowing that God is not a respector of persons... what He does for one, He'll do for others.

The Lord IS truly wonderful!

I feel the Lord finds each member of His creation Unique and Individual, to be blessed in ways unimaginable in the generic sense. He sees each one of us as an individual, each with our own set of special circumstances.

Of all the billions of people that have lived, died and are still living, no two have the same face, fingerprints or circumstances.

I had just lost a wonderful wife of 20 years after a long term illness.
Her medical insurance had capped out and we borrowed on everything we could to keep up with medical expenses. So much so that outgo was much greater than income to support the debt.

Is this the type situation one would consider bringing a new spouse into?
Of course not!
Which is why I can honestly say, I was definitely NOT looking at the time.
I had just way to many things to attend to, to recover from the situation I was in and get back on track.

One cannot outguess what the Lord is thinking or why He would place someone in our path at a time we (of ourselves) could virtually do nothing about it.
A window of opportunity, although presented, could not be opened due to circumstances.

But when we turn EVERYTHING over to the Lord, He handles it in ways that only bring Glory to the Most High!

I say in all truth "He carefully provided the funding, the time and the way!"
And He did this in ways that required our full faith in Him as prerequisites.
If we would do what He asked us to do first, He would promise we would receive a particular blessing in return.

When what he asks us to do, in our minds eye, seems like it would result in total failure, by taking the faith to do it anyhow, regardless of what the 'natural' outcome would be, He is true and faithful to present us with our reward, and the outcome is totally unlike anything we could imagine with our mortal minds.

A remote example, not associated with the above of course, would be something like: If you could not swim, not even a lick, and the Lord said, I will make you to walk on water IF you have faith enough in Me to jump into that undertow off the bridge.

Knowing you cannot swim, knowing that an undertow will pull you to the bottom of the riverbed, knowing you cannot breath under water, dictates that if you try to defy the laws of nature and your abilities, you will certainly drown.

But the Lord said, DO IT, and you will Walk on the Water!

You can chose to follow your own natural senses OR you can listed to the Lords instructions and do what He says in order to reap the Promise.

You have many choices you can make!
Don't do anything and forget it.
Jump in the water with HOPE, knowing you will drown. And drown!
Or Jump in the water with the true FAITH, that the Lord will faithfully Honor His Promise, and Walk on the Water with the Lord.

Some of the decisions Debi and I had to make together, were to do seemingly impossible or socially dangerous tasks, but tasks requested of us by the Lord with a Promise of a reward. Sometimes He would allow us to know what the reward would be ahead of time, but the rewards made known to us before the fact, were rewards that we could not understand to be even remotely possible, even for the Lord in a biblical sense.

Then there was always the possibility that it was Satan, coming as an angel of light, bidding that we do certain things. To be sure it was of the Lord, we had to test the Spirit to differentiate between true and false messages.
But the Holy Spirit gave to us the power of discernment to help us along our journey and to only follow the instructions from the Lord.

Obviously, we were greatly blessed and able to do so, else we would not be where we are today.

The Lord truly does provide for our needs!

Now, if only He would handle of few of those Wants we dearly desire, eh!

Be careful though, the Lord KNOWS our Needs......
We often place Wants as Needs in our minds eye!
And if we use His bountiful blessings that cover our Needs, for Wants, leaving the Needs unfulfilled, we can lose that blessing altogether.

Debi and I celebrated our 4th anniversary last June and we are both happier than either of us have ever been in our whole lives.
Money, technically we have none! Just what is necessary to cover our normal monthly bills. Rarely with much left over for Want's......
We have no debts, meaning loans or mortgages, our house and vehicles are paid for. The Lord provided a work for us to do that produced the income necessary to buy the house for cash, but as soon as the house was purchased, that work imediately ended.
When we needed a used vehicle, He provided another work for us to do that resulted in the amount necessary to obtain the vehicle and cover the expenses associated with it's purchase, then that work also ended.

I use the vehicle primarily to bring the elderly to doctors appointments and to do some grocery shopping on a voluntary basis. With gas prices so high, I was afraid I would have to cut down the number of people I could chauffer around per week.
But you know, the Lord has that covered too!
Of late, the trips I make in doing volunteer work, never seem to move the gas gauge down. But let me make an unnecessary trip for myself and it drops like a rock. Necessary trips in drops normally as expected.
I have NEVER not had enough gas to make my round of doctors and hospitals with the elderly! Amazing!!!!! Another of God's miracles for sure!

May God Bless

We will both turn 60 years old during this anniversary year as well.

We are still just as happy together as when we first met here on MC, actually, I feel we are quite happier now that we know each other a little better!

The Lord has truly blessed us in our marriage!

Can you believe it?

SEVEN years clicked by already!

And it still only seems like we just met yesterday, but at the same time, it's like we've known each other forever.

The Lord has truly blessed us and continues to do so on a daily basis.

May God Bless

Man those numbers keep clicking by don't they!

Now don't get all Gushy on me gang!

It was 9 years ago TODAY (Jan. 4th), that I met my wonderful new* wife Debi, ON-LINE, right here at Meet Christians!!!!!

Although we had set a late April wedding date, we managed to SNAG an impossible to get June 1st, 2001 wedding date at the last minute.
June is usually booked up 3 years in advance! We really hit it lucky at under 2 months to go. The fanciest reception hall, etc. etc. etc. all suddenly opened up to us on that June 1st date.

We all know Our Lord Jesus Christ made it all happen that way for us!
After all, He's been running the show all along!

*late model trade-in (as in very late antique model), pre-owned, scratch n dent, with some old baggage still in the trunk. But new to ME!

Hard to believe it's been 9 whole years already, only seems like 3 or 4 tops! We STILL have never had even the slightest argument over anything!
She still watches Footsball while eating Okra and Fried Green Maters with Wallpaper paste gravy! I still enjoy my Steak n Taters, on occasion!
But she has gotten making Stringy Roast Pot (my Favorite) to the point it's better than Mom's..... But don't tell Mom that!

Happy New Year
And May God Bless all of you as much as He has Debi and I!!!!!

Yes, the Lord has really shown great mercy and set us in His hand.
He tends to place us where we need to be at the moment we need to be there and as He promised, He sees to all of our needs.

It only seems like a few years, but come January 4th, it will be a whole decade that the Lord brought Debi and I together, here at MC.
And still, after all of these years, we have not had a single argument, nor spoken a cross word to or about each other. Which is truly a miracle, considering we are almost complete opposites of each other.
Perhaps that's because what one of us lacks, the other compliments, so together we comprise the dynamic duo.

Although JC was born in the Spring, we traditionally celebrate His birthday this month and usher in the New Year while glad tidings are still on our tongues and in our hearts.

May you have a special blessed Christmas and a spirit filled new year!

Hi All

Hard to believe; today marks our eleventh wedding anniversary!

Still seems like we met only a few short years ago.

Most of our acquaintances, who met and married through MC, are no longer members; however a few still e-mail us card or note each year.

Debi and I pray each night, that our fellow MC members can find a mate and be as happy together as we are.

The Lord is always very good to us and keeps us smiling 24/7.

Everyone thought doing a gut rehab on our kitchen would be our most trying of moments. Despite the many problems with materials and equipment, we still managed to pull it off without a single argument or disagreement. So our record of no cross words between us, still holds solid and true!

May God Bless each of you as He has blessed us!

One Dozen Years of Pure Happiness between us.

We still have not exchanged a cross word yet.
That doesn't mean there wasn't an evil eye now and then.
Or an occasional ribbing, in fun, over a Honey-do project lagging behind.

I thought, once she retired, things might change, that we might get on each others nerves. However, it is quite the opposite. We hope to cross paths at least once per day.

Truly a match made in heaven, and the Good Lord showers us with blessings each and every day.

Ole Scratch may try from time to time, but he never has prevailed once.
