I'm sure that would look real good on your Resume.

Employers would likely hire you in a heartbeat!

Northern Michigan University to Offer Marijuana Studies Degree

Northern Michigan University now offers a degree in “medicinal plant chemistry,” which may be the first degree program dedicated to the study of marijuana.

In a post on the university’s website, faculty behind the new degree program explain that the historical stigma surrounding marijuana is quickly vanishing, thus making it an appropriate time for students to begin to study the chemistry behind medicinal plants.

“The historical stigma associated with cannabis is quickly vanishing, and although there is a surge in businesses related to the marijuana economy, there is a major gap in educational opportunities available to prepare people for this field,” the university’s website reads.

“No other 4-year undergraduate degree program in the world combines rigorous coursework in chemistry and biology with research and hands-on instrumental analysis built into the curriculum to prepare its graduates for a career in the cannabis industry,” it continues.

According to the website, earning a degree in “medicinal plant chemistry” will be required to enroll in a wide range of rigorous science courses such as organic chemistry, biochemistry, and plant physiology. In addition, students will be required to take accounting and financial management courses.

Speaking to The College Fix, a spokesperson for the university explained that the program is designed to produce graduates who are analytical chemists who understand the science behind medicinal plants such as marijuana.

“The new Medicinal Plant Chemistry degree was created to produce graduates who are analytical chemists. The program adheres to the highest industry standards and regulations and focuses on analyzing, precisely measuring and extracting active ingredients of medicinal plants, including cannabis,” Derek Hall, a spokesman for the university said."

Students will likely be beating a path to sign up for that degree.

Not that I support such, it is actually becoming a huge industry. Those educated in such will likely be in great demand.

The short time I worked at The Home Depot is likely what opened my eyes to how huge and quickly the legal marijuana industry is growing. I cannot count the number of customers I assisted with determining the requirements for an irrigation system. After a couple questions, it would be shared with me that these systems were for marijuana fields enclosed in secured buildings with open roofs. Some shared with me that each such "barn" netted them like $250000.

I read a lot of financial and investment news. There is now a category of research and advice dedicated to marijuana investments.

I don't know, of course, that this (marijuana) would be the rational for having such a degree, but there are already out there courses that deal with studies in "medicinal plant chemistry."

As a matter of fact, I was enrolled in one myself, which dealt with the healing powers of herbal medicinal plants. Marijuana was not part of that course, but other plants, such as cayenne, ginger, garlic, and more were.

I don't really believe the legalization or illegalization of any plant is or should be of Christian concern. Granted, when I was once your typical 'Republican Christian' I was of that mind, but I have learned a lot since then of how corrupt government uses such issues to expand their control over the sheep (us), and that is a much more grave problem then the misuse of a plant is.

That is not to say I am in favor of the ill uses of marijuana, only the ill use that having the government involved helps to take more of our freedoms away with the supposed government claims of taking a moral stand against it legitimizes government restrictions against us.

Just yesterday there was a special on local news featuring the growing legal marijuana industry in Michigan. Whether we like it or not, it is providing jobs, creating a need for those with education and skills, providing income comparative to high-tech jobs, etc..

In states such as CA and CO, it has become a vital part of their economy. It is expected to achieve the same status in Michigan.

On the other hand, I have read there is a strong move behind the scenes with strong support from local law enforcement to totally revoke the recent Michigan laws providing legality to some aspects of marijuana. If that is not feasible, at least make the laws more strict providing better control on whom is being licensed in the state to provide services related to marijuana.
