To be a " comforter " ... more so than to be ... " comfortable. "

RPM, I heard someone say once that in ministry, you have to prepare to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Isn't being a comforter something that goes beyond our own personal comfort and transcends to another's comfort?

Judy, if loving accurately, I'd say yes...there is sacrifice involved.

I would also say this comes from our Divine 'comforter' who teaches us the truth in all things.

Before His death, Jesus promised His disciples that He would not leave them as orphans. "And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever" (John 14:16).

(some translations say 'advocate' or 'helper').

'Advocate' or 'Helper' sounds a little more accurate. Some out there who are new to the faith may see the term, "Comforter" and misinterpret it, thinking that their life is going to be sunshine and rainbows every day. I hope I don't draw fire from anyone on this comment. This is just my opinion.

Judy -- put your hands up!...(drawing fire) ...okay not really.

I agree with you actually ... if one would interpret comforter incorrectly.

it could be reconciled with scriptures though, here:

2 Cor 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 5For just as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.

Great point though. Thanks.

Not sure if you read the " Call to Worship " post in the General Forum, but if you get the chance ... I did share a message on " comfort."

Yes, I do believe ... when we are not receiving any type of comfort from other sources in our life ... we do have our " TRUE SOURCE " of comfort from God ... as we live our new life in Jesus Christ.

Thank you for your response Judy757 ! :2thumbs:

Judy -- I see your :naanaa:!!!! ... ( )!

This site is not as user friendly as many (it's outdated)...in order to post outside of a quote, you can type beneath/after where it says [ endquote ] and it should be outside of the box....

So glad you are with us, Judy!

lol @ Judy.

I made a thread on the emoticons once. The one you posted is one is one of my favorites (as well as the grinning smile). Not so crazy about many of them emoticons (which was the point of the thread I made). I do also use this one a lot here on MC: :duck: ""

I meant to come back to this question earlier ... it's a good question.
