No. 0     Original Topic:  Friends

Wow! I was just sitting here thinking and looked up at the site and this Scripture was right in front of me:

Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.
Proverbs 27:6

The Amplified Bible reads:
Faithful are the wounds of a friend [who corrects out of love and concern],
But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful [because they serve his hidden agenda].

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible

Faithful are the wounds of a friend,.... That is, friendly reproofs; which, though they may be severe, at least thought so, and may grieve and wound, and cause pain and uneasiness for the present, yet, proceeding from a spirit of love, faithfulness, and integrity, and designed for the good of the person reproved, ought to be kindly received; see Psalm 141:5;

but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful; flow from a deceitful heart, and not to be confided in, as the kisses of Joab and Judas. It may be rather rendered, "are to be deprecated" (y); prayed against, as real evils, hurtful and pernicious; and so the Targum renders it, "are evil". Good is the advice of Isocrates (z),

"reckon them faithful, not who praise everything thou sayest or doest, but those that reprove what is amiss.''

*******

Sometimes, people will come off friendly, but it is up to us to see if their offering is honest or deceitful. A good judge is the Word of God. For example, if a person attacks an anointed man of God, they are not following after the love and truth presented in the Bible. God's Word tells us not to touch his anointed. Anyone who is serving the Lord due to an anointing put on him by the Lord has such an anointing on their life. There are plenty of ways to see if someone's words line up. It is up to us to know the Word of God by studying to show ourselves approved and by following the example of Jesus to be filled to overflowing by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is what helps us in our times of need by giving us insight and the ability to see with spiritual eyes, instead of just the physical or soul.

We choose friends because of things we have in common, but we also need to choose friends who lift us up and help us to better ourselves as humans and people of God. Sometimes, we are called to let go of certain people/influences who may not have our best at heart. Not everyone has the same abilities and not everyone is beneficial to our spiritual growth. Some friends are with us for only a season while others may last a lifetime. Okay, the lifetime friend is someone who is not a part of me, but I have no doubt is a part of someone else's life. I am proof of people being moved in and out of my life during different seasons as the Lord moves me from one plateau to the next, so that I can grow and learn what he has for me. That also includes family since I had to separate from my family for a season of spiritual growth which would not have come had they the opportunity to hold me back, although not purposely.

Anyway, maybe there are others who have had the need to evaluate their friendships, deciding who is a real or fake friend or who is to stay and who is to go for the season.

A friend is a person who goes around saying nice things about you behind your back.

True friends would never hurt you or try to get u to do illegal things such as dope. Sadly, true friends are rare.

A true friend is one who thinks you're a good egg even though you're half-cracked.

We can have " good " friends, but no one can ever be our " best " friend.

Jesus Christ is our ... ONE and ONLY ... " best " friend.

I have a poem, written many years ago, but it's at home. Maybe when I get back...

You have absolutely no reason to suggest we are friends in a public forum except for appearances. This will not help you in building relationships because it is deceitful. I have only one personal friend on this site. Being on the same site and showing respect to one another does not make us personal friends, only friendly acquaintances and brethren to those who fit the definition. This is not meant to harm anyone, but to clarify, and it does not mean that I do not have great appreciation for several members here who are the family of God and have moved my heart.

OK so what you're saying is that you don't want to be my friend anymore?
