These are problems that has plagued the site since the beginning. I know the Webmaster would like to be able to do something about it when a suitable programmer is available.
1. You can be asked to log in again after you have been online for a long time. I am not sure of the actual length of time, but thought it could be a couple of hours. This is a security feature. Until such time as the program is able to save the work you have completed I would suggest that you make sure you log in afresh just before starting your reply.
2. When you are typing a post or replying to a message you can also find that when you go to post or send it there is a glitch and it disappears resulting in the loss of all your work. You can work around this either by composing your message in a word processor and then copy and paste into your message. You then retain the copy in the word processor in the event that it is not posted. Another way is to type within the site in the posting/message space and then select and copy your message before you hit the send or post button. If it fails you can then open the message page again and repost your saved message from your clipboard.

I know this may not answer your frustration but it is the best suggestion I can make.
