12 Angry Men (96 minutes, USA/1957), produced by and starring Henry Fonda, is a film about the jury of a homicide trial as they deliberate to reach a unanimous verdict of guilt beyond reasonable doubt or acquittal of a defendant. The question to be decided is whether the defendant, a city slum teenage boy murdered his father. The jury of twelve men an assistant high school football coach, a bank clerk, a messenger service businessman, a stockbroker, a paramedic, a house painter, a salesman, an architect, a wise old man, a garage owner, a watchmaker, and an advertising executive begin by taking an initial vote in the jury room. Eleven jurors vote for conviction and the lone dissenter declares the evidence as circumstantial, asserting that the boy deserves a fair deliberation. The dissenting juror proceeds to sow a seed of reasonable doubt. He questions the accuracy and reliability of the only two witnesses to the murder and, in the course of arguing with one another, the jurors become slowly convinced that the case is not as obviously clear as it seemed during court hearings.

The film demonstrates the dynamics of various consensus-building techniques as it dramatizes how personal prejudices add intense conflict to the difficulties of reaching a unanimous verdict among individuals of wide-ranged personalities. Rated 8.9/10 from 234,875 viewers at IMDB, the film was the second most screened film in secondary schools in the United Kingdom in 2011.

A 1997 television film version produced by Terence Donnely and starring Jack Lemon is also available and has rated 7.6/10 from 7,396 viewers at IMDB.
