Having taken the night train (17 hrs) to Iasi for Carmen's exams, we took the day train home.

Left at zero darkthirty.

It was a little faster than this

Last Big Train Station before the Mountains

Leaving the big mountains behind

Cannot get away from hauling hay--at least I had Carmen to help me here

This so much reminds of ukraine when I went there..plus going through other countries, horse & cart, the churches, the cemetaries, the poorness there.

Yes, quite a contrast between the big cities and the country, although there were chickens and geese in the back yard of a house next to our hotel on the University campus...and a shopping mall 200 meters away.

The Romanian countryside reminds me of the verse that Godliness with contentment is great gain.

That must have been an awesome, peaceful trip.

Is everything really as neat and organized as it looks on the pictures?

Thanks for sharing.

Yes, Anneke, even when they haul manure out in the field with the wagaon and the horse, they make small piles in the field, all the same size, all equally spaced.

But when you get in or near the big cities there is always trash: empty plasitc bottles and trash scattered around by the dumbster sites and along the RR tracks. At the U. in Iasi, there was an empty lot near our hotel that was a mess.

I 'lucked out' on this photo. There were a lot of branches obscuring the view along the rail bed at this point.

Wow! What a breathtaking train ride!

It's so funny how places in Europe can almost seem like they've been trapped in a time capsule.

The architecture is beautiful!

The country side reminds me of Lithuania. It was so funny, in Lithuania, they chained their cows to little cement blocks in their fields. They could only roam as far as their ropes allowed.

But the hay in the fields were piled up in high stacks, just like you see in your photos.

Thanks so much for sharing!!! The only perspective that I've seen of Romania has been the sewers and the life below...

I have friends that have gone for ministry and that's where they went, it was so sad to see what happens when government dictates daily life and sets harsh restrictions for their people. They're still dealing with the back lash of that now (or were a few years ago).

As an easy way to share these photos with friends and others, I originally linked this thread on my website. I had also hoped that it would be a way to bless Dev and give MC more exposure.

I come back about once a year and check the stats. Last year, in June, there were over 3000 views, now, it is over 5000 (exact number at the top, I forgot already!)

Well, that's not much for most people but surprises me that people are still looking.

Also, last year in April the fotos from Deutschland had 2100 hits in April, now at 4122.

Don't know if this is interesting, but what's a bored guy to do? Carmen will soon be here at the end of June!

Good for you! I'll bet you are excited as June is now here! These photos are great-- thanks for posting them. I had never seen them until now. Trains are great! I rode one from Nebraska to Washington, DC during the PATCO air traffic controllers strike; also rode the Shinkansen ("bullet" train) in Japan from Hiroshima to Kyoto, the old feudal capitol-- truly a fantastic experience.

I'm really curious about Deutschland, though, since those are where my roots are-- "ancient" Pomerania is where my ancestors emigrated from. Makes me want to get on a plane and get the heck out of Dodge...

I meant to do this long ago (better late than never?) to give some perspective:

The Train Trip was from Iasi (Yashh...ya as in German yes) see near border with Moldova (which was once part of Romania)

to Arad, see western border (above Timisoara)

If you want to see Romania in perspective, here is map of Europe

That is quite a long train trip seemingly from the map (not from the map of Europe though).

I would love to do something like this one day.

That quote was two years ago come next month when this thread passed 5000 views It has now passed 25,000 views.

Can anyone still see the pictures??? I think maybe it is a problem with my Opera browser, but all I see is little boxes that say "image."
